Chase has announced the second year of their American Giving Awards, a program designed to honor the contributions of local charities nationwide and give them the opportunity to share $2 million in grants to continue their work.

The American Giving Awards will allow fans of Chase Community Giving on Facebook to vote for a charity from among 25 past Chase Community Giving Grant recipients during the week of November 27th – December 4th .  The charities with the most votes within their respective categories will be honored at a nationally televised  awards ceremony on December 8.

We are excited to announce that YouthBuild Philadelphia has been selected as one of the 25 charities eligible to win up to $1 million in the American Giving Awards program!

This means that you have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for the future of YouthBuild Philadelphia.  Please help us spread the word about this opportunity to your friends and family!  With a portion of Chase’s $2 million in donations, we will continue our mission of giving high school dropouts a second chance to earn their diplomas while learning job skills, and help those students go on to graduate from college.

We are the only Philadelphia organization selected to participate, and we’re proud to represent our city and the YouthBuild movement.  Even winning 5th place and receiving $125,000 would constitute a huge investment in the potential of the motivated young men and women enrolled at YouthBuild Philadelphia.

Here’s the “Big Idea” that we submitted to Chase:

YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School transforms the lives and identities of 18-21 year old inner-city youth, taking them on a journey from high school dropout to first generation college student.  In our highly individualized school, YouthBuild students go from being stereotypes to role models.  From “street kids” to industry certified professionals.  From statistics to community leaders. YouthBuild serves as a family, providing high expectations and caring support for students as they realize and achieve their full potential. Funds from Chase will be used for direct scholarships, need-based grants that augment students’ resilience and grit, and for expert and loving staff to guide young people who are hungry for a second chance to make their dreams a reality.

We’re honored to be recognized by Chase Community Giving, and grateful for the opportunity to share our vision and our mission with a national audience.
