Congratulations, Graduates! (6/19/08)
On the evening of June 19, 2008, YouthBuild held its June graduation ceremony at Ben Franklin High School to celebrate the accomplishments of our students over the course of the year. Students received high school diplomas in front of more than 1,000 family members, friends, supporters and YouthBuild staff. Congratulations, Class of 2008!

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony (6/18/08)
In partnership with Nicetown Community Development Corporation, YouthBuild dedicated a newly rehabilitated home at 1541 Rowan Street to the Nicetown community on June 18, 2008. Students rebuilt the home during the school year as part of their vocational training.

Deloitte Impact Day (6/6/08)
On June 6, 2008, 25 employees from the Greater Philadelphia offices of Deloitte LLP volunteered at YouthBuild in celebration of Deloitte IMPACT Day and the United Way of Southeastern PA's Day of Caring. The volunteers supported students as they prepared to present end-of-year academic/personal growth portfolios for graduation.
Deloitte employees volunteer year-round with non-profit organizations in order to help strengthen communities. Deloitte IMPACT Day is a celebration of Deloitte's ongoing commitment to volunteerism.

Nurse Aide Graduation (6/4/08)
On June 4, 2008, sixteen students graduated from YouthBuild Philadelphia's nurse aide training program with 1199C Training and Upgrading Fund. The students were formally recognized in a ceremony at the Kimmel Center.
Congratulations to Quinesha Butler, Dominique Carr, Rhondicia Cash, Stephon Derrick, Shelly Durbin, Liza Foster, Amanda Keoma, Bangky Kun, LeAnne Laureano, Melissa Martinez, Michelle Martinez, Fatima Matthews, Jazmyne Matthews, Mificia Miller, Amanda Monroe and Tiffany Shubert.

Sunoco/PECO Laptops (6/08)
In June 2008, Sunoco and PECO awarded ten, almost new, completely refurbished laptops to ten hardworking students in YouthBuild's Leadership Philadelphia professional training program. The students were rewarded by Sunoco and PECO for their hard work, with laptops being chosen as the rewards in order to help further entrepreneurship.
Congratulations to Joshua Ward, Carreather Atcherson, Tyrone Roberts, John Spencer, Antonique Singleton, Westley Boyd, Stacy Foster, Shantell Dunlap, Saleem Jefferson and Paris Turner.

YouthBuild USA Receives $5 Million Wal-Mart Grant (5/21/08)
On May 21, 2008, Wal-Mart Foundation announced a $5 million grant (from which YouthBuild Philadelphia received $200,000) to YouthBuild USA in a morning press conference. The announcement was made from YouthBuild Philadelphia's rehabilitation site at 1541 Rowan Street in Nicetown.
Attendees and participants included Wal-Mart Foundation President Margaret McKenna, YouthBuild USA President Dorothy Stoneman, State Senator Shirley Kitchen, Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller, Councilwoman Curtis Jones, and Deputy Education Advisor (for Mayor Nutter) Sharon Tucker.
Class of 2008 student Carreather Atcherson and Class of 1995 graduate Lamont Jackson spoke during the event. Media coverage included FOX29, ABC6 and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
