Computer Educator (Full-time/Temporary - AmeriCorps)
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Technology instructors provide technology-focused vocational training to students. Instructors do the following: teach all necessary components for the Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) exam; work with students to refurbish donated computers, which are then redistributed to local organizations; and, teach web-design for both work with outside organizations and the development of the students' personal sites. Instructors also serve as a mentors to students.
Applicants must be motivated and willing to self-teach. Some training will be provided. Applicants of all skill levels are encouraged to apply.
Requirements:
- Ability to serve full-time from August 1, 2008 to July 1, 2009
- Citizenship status must be either U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States
- Desire to provide needed educational, technological, or community services to an under-served community while receiving the following benefits: a living allowance of $12,000, an education award of $4,725, loan forbearance w/ interest accrument payment, child care coverage (if applicable), and health insurance.

Philadelphia InterCorps Council Coordinator (Full-time/Temporary - AmeriCorps*VISTA)
Background:
AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) provides full-time members to non-profit, faith-based and other community organizations, and public agencies to create and expand programs whose missions are to help bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty. Through AmeriCorps*VISTA, ordinary people provide extraordinary service in more than 1,200 projects nationwide.
AmeriCorps*VISTA members leverage human, financial, and material resources to increase the capacity of low-income communities across the country to help them solve their own problems. Since 1965, more than 140,000 Americans have served through VISTA. Today, nearly 6,000 AmeriCorps*VISTA members serve throughout the country–working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, increase housing opportunities, bridge the digital divide, and strengthen the capacity of community organizations. When VISTA members complete their service, they leave behind lasting solutions to some of our country's toughest problems.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The full time VISTA member will be responsible for the development of the Philadelphia Inter-Corps Council (ICC). The ICC will serve as a vehicle for collaborative efforts, resource sharing and program development for all of the Philadelphia AmeriCorps programs, including YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School, City Year Philadelphia, Education Works and many more.
Position responsibilities include:
- Developing a resource sharing network between these programs;
- Coordinating monthly training meetings and social events for members of these programs;
- Facilitating and coordinating quarterly meetings for an ICC Advisory Board of Supervisors;
- Partnering with PennSERVE: The Governor’s Office of Community Service in planning the Annual State Launch for members to come together for support and training in October;
- Assisting VISTA members in finding service activities, and assisting the efforts of the local United Way for Martin Luther King Day of Service in January; and,
- Coordinating activities in conjunction with PennSERVE and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) state office for AmeriCorps Week in May.
The position will be hosted by YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School. The VISTA will serve alongside other full time AmeriCorps members working with YouthBuild’s service program.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Leadership experience
- Experience and comfort with public speaking
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Citizenship status must be either U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States
Compensation:
- Living allowance of approximately $10,300
- Education award of $4,725
- Loan forbearance w/ interest accruement payment
- Child care coverage (if applicable)
- Health insurance
- Relocation expense reimbursement
