Student Assistance Program
Students with significant barriers to learning are referred to the Student
Assistance Program (SAP), a systemic process to mobilize school resources to
remove these barriers. The primary goal of the SAP program is to help
students overcome, achieve, remain in school, and advance.
SAP team members are trained to identify problems, determine if the
presenting problem is within the responsibility of the school, and make
recommendations to assist the student. When the problem is beyond the scope
of the school's services, the SAP team will assist the student in accessing
services within the community. The SAP team does not diagnose, treat or
refer to treatment; but they may refer for a screening or an assessment for
treatment. |

COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT
Our students face many complications that can stand in the way of successfully completing the program. To combat this, we provide a multi-layered support system so that students have a consistent, healthy environment in which to thrive.
Case Management
Case Managers are central figures in the students' lives, and are responsible for coordinating important support services. At the onset of the program, students meet with their case managers to develop a comprehensive personal assessment of the following:
Personal
Goals
Mental and Physical Health
Substance Abuse History
Sexual Health Practices
Family Situation
Relationships
Educational Background
Employment History
Financial Issues
Legal Issues
Case Managers work closely with students throughout the school year to help them overcome their barriers and achieve their personal goals. Students also have access to individual counseling sessions as needed.
Mentors
Along with a case manager, each student is assigned a staff mentor who serves as an additional source of support. Mentor/mentee relationships are formed based on the academic and social needs of each individual student. Mentors may call students when they are absent from school, track academic progress, and be a source of personal encouragement.
Men’s and Women’s Groups
Students attend weekly gender-based group sessions facilitated by case managers. These sessions are engineered so that students can discuss and examine issues that they may come across in every day life. Through this class, students display and acknowledge their unique strengths and talents. Topics include:
Personal Relationships
Sexual Health
Rape and Sexual Abuse Prevention
Substance Abuse Prevention
Parenting
Responsibility
Self-Esteem
Death and Loss
Changing Negative Perceptions
Coping with Past Mistakes |
